I need a new roof as it is very old. but I cannot afford one this year. This month it seemed to have a minor leak on the side of the house. is there anything I can do until I can get a new roof put on?
Toronto
I've got some good news and bad news. The bad news first: If your roof is genuinely leaking, there's not much you can do other than replacing it. A solid roof is crucial for protecting your home, as water damage can devastate your walls in just a few months. Now for the good news: The image you posted likely indicates attic condensation rather than a leak. This can be caused by blocked or insufficient airflow and insulation in your attic. What should you do? Have a roofer come and inspect your home. More often than not, the solution is straightforward and much less expensive than you might think. I hope this helps!

I got some quotes and one said that we do not need to replace all the flashing while the other two said that it does need to be replaced when the roof is replaced. I cannot find anything definitive online but am wondering what you think?
Toronto
It's generally a smart practice to replace flashing that is exposed to the elements. However, it's certainly not required every 15-20 years. A well-installed, high-quality flashing can typically last around 50 years. Roofers often include flashing in their initial quotes, anticipating it might need replacement. If it turns out unnecessary, they adjust the final bill accordingly.
